Responding to the Needs of Our Immigrant Communities | | - Presented a "How to Live in America" program to the state Legislature.
This participant-funded program teaches California’s laws and regulations to immigrant Californians who lack basic English skills. Developed and implemented initially in Colorado, the program has led to an impressive decline in recidivism, according to participating courts. - Sponsored legislation, (SB 874 - Dunn), to permit Adult English Classes at local
businesses and worksites. These classes would increase safety and communication in the workplace and help non-English speakers attain the tools necessary for societal and career growth. - Supported SB 1818 - Romero, to provide protection for undocumented workers
against abuses from unjust employers who violate labor laws.
